Distractions take away our focus. Many things in life cause distractions. An unforeseen health issue, an unexpected life event, a family crisis, are types of distractions. Other distractions fall under one of these categories. Distractions lead to stress, worry, anxiety, and prevent us from focusing on what's important.
People who are "all over the place" are usually distracted. They have difficulty balancing priorities, distributing energy, and managing relationships. They lack drive and may feel overwhelmed, leading to exhaustion. Typically, distractions are caused by one primary event, or person, that manipulates our time, mental energy, and resources.
Distractions are prevalent when:
You drop everything you are doing to manage someone's crisis.
Your relationships suffer because you are not giving them the proper attention.
You invest time and financial resources into people who cannot give you a return on your investments.
You are constantly irritated and frustrated.
You wrongfully blame people for your frustrations.
You have difficulty making simple or complex decisions.
You are easily offended by triggers you refuse to identify.
You look for escapes rather than deal with the sources of your distractions.
Distractions damage relationships and waste time. Most importantly, distractions prevent you from focusing on life's most important priorities. Here are ways to avoid distractions.
Get off your phone. Smart phone usage is a primary distraction. It clutters our minds and builds addictions to Internet use.
Prioritize your tasks. If it is not urgent, don't give it urgent energy or attention.
Let's people figure our their own lives. People who fail to put their lives in order will cause chaos and disorder in your life if you allow it.
Don't respond immediately. Everything isn't a crisis. Stop drowning yourself in text messages and email.
Declutter your emotions. If you are holding unresolved issues with people in your heart and mind, those issues will distract you. Clean your mental closet and free yourself from emotional baggage.
Clear your calendar. You don't need to schedule a meeting to plan another meeting. Delegate responsibly and make time for yourself.
Stop trying to escape. You cannot run from yourself. Look within you for what you allow to distract you.
There are events happening in the world that may distract us. Keep your mind clear. Make sure your priorities are in order. Don't allow the small foxes to spoil your vines. Look for peaceful ways to manage your life. Everything is not that important.
